Cosy Living Stoves, installations by Richard Randall Woodburners, Kibworth, Leicestershire

Installations by

Having been a firefighter for 14 years, it opened my eyes as to how many fires are chimney fires. To prevent this make sure you use a HETAS Engineer and regularly maintain your chimney and stove.

Wood burning stoves can provide hours of comfort and relaxation providing you have the right stove to suit your room size and personal design taste. You also need the peace of mind that it has been fitted safely.

We aim to provide an individual tailored friendly service to make sure you select the right stove so your installation can last you for many years to come. We can discuss with you the benefits and designs of different stoves and hearths to make sure you make the right choice.

We can also install your stove using our HETAS Engineer making sure it is fitted to meet regulations and safety requirements. We pride ourselves on carrying out all of our work to a high standard. Many of the installations we carry out are from recommendations; please see some of the feedback we have had from customers on our website. Please contact us for a free no obligation quotation.  For further information on regulations view 'document J' which is the approved legislation document.

Areas covered

We typically cover South Leicestershire, including Market Harborough and surrounding villages as well as Leicester City Centre. We will carry out an installation in areas outside this where a stove has been purchased from us or a survey fee may be incurred.

What is involved having a wood burner installed?

Fireplace/Hearth

To comply with HETAS regulations and make sure your wood burner is at its most efficient and safe, your fireplace and hearth may need adapting. Your fireplace may need ‘knocking out’ to ensure there is adequate clearance around your wood burner to allow air to circulate. There are different options for this dependant on whether you would like any pre-existing brickwork exposing and cleaning up or newly plastered. You may need a lintel inserting to support the brick and may like a fire surround or beam inserting dependant on the look you are trying to achieve. The hearth needs to be a minimum of 300mm in front of the wood burner and also needs to be a minimum of 150mm at the sides. Dependant on personal choice and budget you could chose to have something like flagstones/slate tiles, ceramic tiled hearth or a natural stone bespoke hearth made in granite, limestone or honed/riven slate.

Chimney/Flue

A flue liner is always recommended to prevent flue gases escaping through disintegrating brickwork and provides the optimum flue diameter allowing maximum heat efficiency to be achieved from your Stove however, is not always necessary from a safety point of view if it passes a smoke test. A cowl is also fitted to your chimney to ensure that no debris or birds can enter the flue and again makes sure your install complies with regulations. If you do not have an existing chimney then a twin wall system can be installed. This is an insulated metal sectional flue system allowing you to have a wood burner where there is no chimney. There are many types of flue liners/systems available on the market. We only use high quality system which are guaranteed for the life of your stove (typically up to 20 years)

Stove installation

Installation of the stove itself, including adaptors to connect it to the flue liner and register plate. It is important this is installed correctly with a good seal to stop flue gases escaping. Supply of HETAS certification which certifies your work has been carried out by an approved installer and will be required if at any point you wish to sell your property.

Access to Chimney

Dependant on the height and ease of access to the chimney stack in some instances it may be that scaffolding is required.
